The Patch Table: Types, Universes, Addresses, Conflicts

The core of the Patch tab is a table of all the fixtures in the project. Each row is one fixture, and you edit its key parameters right in the table.

📍 Where: the mode switch → “Patch”. The button to add a fixture is in the top-right corner (see 02.03).

Table columns:

Column What it shows / how to change it
ID The fixture’s internal number (not editable)
Name The fixture’s name. Click and type your own (for example, “Head stage-left”)
Type The kind of fixture (spotlight, head, fog…). Picked from a list; it changes the icon, group and effect behavior, but not the channels
Universe The fixture’s DMX universe (1–64). Default is 1
Address The starting DMX channel. Red = an address conflict
Mode How many channels the fixture occupies (for example, “16CH”)
Actions Icons: ✏️ edit · ⧉ duplicate · 🗑 delete

How to set up a fixture:

  1. Name — click the field and enter a meaningful name.
  2. Type — pick it from the list if it was detected incorrectly.
  3. Universe — leave it at 1 if you have a single line; set 2/3… if you spread fixtures across universes.
  4. Address — enter the same number set on the fixture itself.

Action icons (on the right of the row):

Icon Action
✏️ Open the fixture’s channel editor (see 02.04)
Duplicate the fixture (handy for identical ones: the copy lands on the next free address)
🗑 Delete the fixture (asks for confirmation)
💡 Tip: clicking the “Name” or “Address” column header sorts the list by it (an arrow marks the active column). This is the same order as in the fixtures block of the “Prog” tab, where you also get “by placement” and “as added”. While you are editing fields in the table, rows stay put: the order is refreshed once you finish typing and click outside the table.
⚠️ Note: a red address is a conflict: the fixture’s channels overlap with another fixture in the same universe. Two fixtures on overlapping channels will receive the same commands. Fix it by moving the address to a free range (or by spreading the fixtures across different universes).
💡 Tip: duplication (⧉) is the fastest way to patch a dozen identical spotlights: add one, set it up, and then keep pressing “duplicate” — the program will place the copies on free addresses for you.
💡 Tip: identical addresses in different universes don’t conflict — that’s normal. A conflict is only checked within a single universe.
